After Chris Goulding rallied the understrength Boomers to a stunning 108-69 triumph over Nigeria in Las Vegas, Australia’s B team has proven they’ll be a force to be reckoned with at the Tokyo Olympics.
Patty Mills, Joe Ingles, Aron Baynes, and Matthew Dellavedova were rested against Nigeria in Wednesday’s pre-Olympics exhibition game, just one day after upsetting the United States 91-83.
Despite missing nearly their entire starting lineup, the Boomers came out fire and lead 49-26 midway through the second quarter before coasting to victory.
Australia was unstoppable from long range, hitting 18 out of 29 targets in a stunning shooting display.
Goulding had the hottest hand of the bunch, hitting all seven of his long bomb attempts en route to 21 points in 22 minutes.
By three-quarter time, he had already made six three-pointers, but he sat for several minutes in the fourth quarter and only made one more shot for the game.
“I’ll be honest, at professional level if I’ve hit seven in a row, I’m probably shooting another 10 more,” Goulding told ESPN.
“It’s a little bit different here at international level.
“We’ve got a good system. I’ve been playing in it for quite a lot of years now. I’m pretty confident in where I can find my shots.”
