Conceicao -Cameroon’s victory over Nigeria to be historic.

Antonio Conceicao, the head coach of Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions, can’t stop celebrating his team’s 1-0 victory over Nigeria in an international friendly in Austria on Friday.

The Indomitable Lions’ victory over the Super Eagles, thanks to Zambo Anguissa’s 37th-minute goal, was their first in more than two decades, and Conceicao praised every member of the squad for displaying the appropriate mentality required to achieve the historic victory.

Cameroon’s first win over the Super Eagles came in the final of the African Cup of Nations in 2000, when they beat their arch-rivals in a penalty shootout after full-time scores were 2-2.

Nigeria went on to win five of the next six matches, including a thrilling 3-2 win in the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations, which was hosted by Egypt two years ago.

Cameroon will host the next edition of the continental extravaganza, and they are aware that they will have to beat a few traditional favorites, namely Nigeria, to win the prized trophy on home soil.

Conceicao accepts that his team must continue to work hard to develop, but he also praises his players’ professionalism in securing the morale-boosting victory over Nigeria.

“This victory facilitates our work,” the head coach said, as per Camfoot.

“That is to say that we are on a good path. It is always much easier to work on victories than on more negative results.

“It will go down in history, but the most important thing is to see the behavior of my players both individually and collectively.

“We took notes; we saw positive things. Logically we need time to improve. We are not yet perfect, but I am very satisfied with the attitude and professionalism of my players.”

Cameroon and Nigeria will meet once more tomorrow in the second leg of their double-header friendly match.
