Dr. Osagie Ehanire, the Minister of Health, has urged citizens, private organizations, religious institutions, and non-governmental organizations to help the government promote healthcare for a better humanity.
He made the appeal yesterday at the Lion Isaac Olusola Dada Dialysis Centre and Renal Institute, sponsored by Lions Club International, Victoria Island, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba.
The minister, who was represented by Alhaji Mahmuda Mamman, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, reaffirmed that the government could not enhance the health sector without the help of well-meaning Nigerians.
She emphasized the importance of prioritizing maintenance and supporting services such as a reliable power supply in order to keep the facility open to the public.
Prof. Chris Bode, LUTH’s Chief Medical Director, stated that when the late Chief Lion Isaac Olusola came to see him in March 2017, he had another project in mind, “but I warned him that the hospital’s dialysis center was in a deteriorated state after being used for over 40 years.”
The visitor, according to the CMD, agreed to construct the dialysis center that is currently being commissioned.
The collaboration, according to Bode, was not only the institution’s largest philanthropic gift, but also the largest dialysis center and nephrology institution in West Africa.
He expressed gratitude to the Olusola family and the LUTH management board for their visionary leadership.
