Between January and June, 85 people were killed and 279 were injured in various road traffic crashes (RTCs) in Edo, according to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).
Mr Henry Benamaisia, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, provided the figure.
Benamaisia told NAN in Benin on Wednesday that 717 people were involved in 114 road accidents during the time under consideration.
The sector commander revealed that 24 people died in January, 13 people died in February, and 14 people perished in March.
He went on to say that 19 people died in April, four in May, and eleven in June.
The sector commander also said that 23 road traffic crashes happened in January, 18 in February, and 17 in March, out of a total of 114.
“In April we recorded 24 RTCs, May, was 12, while in June we recorded 20 RTCs.
“From the total crashes, 39 were fatal and 61 serious, while we recorded 14 minors involved in the crashes”, Benamaisia said.
