Police Arrest 131 Criminals In Benue, Recover 785 Weapons

Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have arrested 131 suspected criminals across the state. They allegedly committed offenses ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery to cultism.

The police also recovered 785 assorted weapons from them.

This was even as the command also awarded seven of its officers, who excelled in their fields of endeavours with awards of excellence.

The gesture, according to the commissioner of police (CP) Audu Madaki, was to encourage officers of the command to do more in their various fields of endeavours to curb criminality in the state.

Parading some of the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Màkurdi, the state capital, the CP said from February 2021 till date, 205 criminals were arrested across the state and have been charged to court and are awaiting trial.

“Since my assumption of duty in February 22 till date, we have embarked on robust community policing to rid the state of criminal activities, during which over 205 criminals were arrested across the state for ccrimes ranging from cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, mischief by fire among other offences and are already charged to court.”

Madaki gave a breakdown of weapons recovered from the suspects to include 32 rifles of different calibres, six AK-47, one G3, three double-barrel guns and 22 locally made pistols, adding that the locally made pistols are higher in number because most of them are manufactured by a blacksmith.
